Corporate Social Responsibility and Firm Performance in the Indian Context

Get PDF
In this study, we examine the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a measure of Corporate Governance on firm performance for 348 firms in the NSE 500 Index listed in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India for the period 2012-2019. The results show that the total amount spent on CSR by the firms has a negative impact on the firm performance as there is a significant difference between the total amount incurred to be spent on CSR as per amendments in the Companies Act, 2013 and the total amount actually spent on CSR by the firms. It’s concluded that the number of CSR meetings held had no significant impact on firm performance. Results also show that firm size moderates the relationship between CSR and firm performance. CITE THIS PAPER: Hayat, Feeroz; Naim, Hamza; Aziz, Tariq (2022). The Impact of Bequest Motives on Retirement Behavior in Japan: A Theoretical and Empirical Analysis

Get PDF
In this paper, we conduct a theoretical and empirical analysis of the impact of bequest motives on the work and retirement behavior of households in Japan using micro data from the Preference Parameters Study of Osaka University. Our empirical findings are consistent with our theoretical model and show that respondents with an altruistic or strategic/exchange bequest motive work more at the intensive margin than those without any bequest motive but that respondents with a strategic or exchange bequest motive work less at the extensive margin (i.e., retire earlier) than those without any bequest motive. Our findings for the strategic or exchange motive suggest that respondents with such a motive tend to work harder than others before they retire so that they can earn more, leave a larger bequest to their children, and elicit more care from them but that they tend to retire earlier than others so that they can start receiving care for themselves and their spouses from their children sooner. A policy implication of our findings is that the exchange of bequests for the care of parents by children may be very sensitive to the inheritance tax framework

Pan African Medical Journal 2016; 2

An Approach and Strategy Of Muhammad Iqbal for Establishing the Universal Constitution

Get PDF
Iqbal's philosophy is the manifesto of vast human sympathy, love, brotherhood and all these human values, which can be the consequent of world Govt. after uniting the human beings. Iqbal's human sympathy and kindness, which dominates the entire human race, sternly negates and condemns nationalism and racialism. Iqbal is the lover of humanity along with patriot, which does not advocate any cast, colour, race, religion and nation. In the beginning, Iqbal was the strong supporter of patriotism but gradually he brought a revolution in his philosophy as he turned towards the universal idea of umma in disguise of universal humanity sympathy. A critical and minute study of Iqbal's philosophy exposes the fact that the main goal of Iqbal had been the welfare of humanity. Iqbal not only withdraw the idea of nationalism rather declared it very inflictive and dangerous. According to Iqbal the world is the homeland of whole human race and the cure of all human troubles and problems is human love for one another.</p

Key words: Hypothyroïdie, drainage chirurgical, tamponnade cardiaqu

Risk Factors and the Incidence of Diabetes Insipidus after Pituitary Surgery

Get PDF
Background: To improve patient care, determining the post-surgery risk factors for diabetes insipidus are extremely significant. We demonstrated the pre-operative factors and postoperative incidence of diabetes insipidus in pituitary surgery. Materials and Methods: Patients of both genders with ages between 18-65 years having pituitary adenoma amenable to surgery were included. The sample size mainly constitutes macroadenomas and giant adenomas i.e., greater than 1 cm and equal to or greater than 4 cm, respectively. The Hosmer-Lemeshow test was used to measure model fit. The receiver operator characteristic curve was used to evaluate the model and variables such as preoperative serum sodium and urine specific gravity. Results: Only 210 of 279 patients met the selection criteria. Most of the patients have lesions greater than 1cm, as a result of which a greater number of patients had undergone transcranial approach. Out of these patients, 27% have developed diabetes insipidus. The mean age was 53 years in the non-DI group, whereas, 47 years was the mean age in the patients with DI. 25% of females and 31% of males developed diabetes insipidus. 75% of females and 64% of males did not develop DI. The highest percentage (61%) of patients who developed DI came from giant adenomas. Conclusion: Giant adenomas, aggressively primarily treated adenomas, and those lesions that were approached transcranially, showed an increased risk of diabetes insipidus and those who have undergone redo surgery have reduced incidence of diabetes insipidus

Why Do Children Take Care of Their Elderly Parents? Are the Japanese Any Different?

Get PDF
In this paper, we conduct a theoretical analysis of why individuals provide are and attention to their elderly parents using a two-period overlapping generations model with endogenous saving and a “contest success function” and test this model using micro data from a Japanese household survey, the Osaka University Preference Parameter Study. To summarize our main findings, we find that the Japanese are more likely to live with (or near) their elderly parents and/or to provide care and attention to them if they expect to receive a bequest from them, which constitutes strong support for the selfish bequest motive or the exchange motive (much stronger than in the United States), but we find that their caregiving behavior is also heavily influenced by the strength of their altruism toward their parents and social norms
